    Milestone!

Wow - my Univega really makes riding a whole lot easier. I just did 51 miles yesterday, AND I'm able to walk around today!

I rode from my house to a friends' house to pick up the cable for my digital camera, then rode to the soccer fields at Montrose and Lake Shore Drive to watch my girlfriends' soccer game (which wasn't being played there, but that's another story), rode home to drop off the cable and pick up some food for my journey, and then I was off!

Unfortunately (I didn't realize at the time) but somehow my speedometer/odometer wasn't working between my friends' house and the soccer field, but I'm going on the assumption that it was about 2 miles. It could've actually been more, but I'll just stick with 2. So even though my odometer said 49 miles at the end of the ride, I'm just going with 51. That's not cheating, is it? :)

After re-fueling, I got on the Lake Shore Bike Path and rode as far south as I could. I was hoping to make it to Indiana (I'm still going to have to check a map to see how far I got) - but I only got as far south as 85th street. By that point, the 'path' was just 'streets', and not very well marked, and the neighborhoods started getting a little scarier. So I just turned around and headed back.

Unfortunately, I think i learned my lesson in skipping my distance ride (it was so windy and rainy last weekend) - I was hurting a bit after 30 miles. I was hurting a LOT after 40 :) (I still need to remember to start taking ibuprofin on these rides!) However, I still think I'm no more worse for wear, because I'm still able to walk around today - I've had rides on my mountain bike where I could hardly walk the next day!

Anyhow, I'm really excited that I was able to hit +50 miles yesterday, and (once again) a little ahead of schedule!
